School coexistence is crucial because it directly impacts the learning environment and the quality of relationships within the educational sphere. Coexistence fosters an atmosphere where students can feel safe, respected, and supported, which in turn facilitates the development of social skills. The research thesis, titled "Emotions and Artistic Expression: Considerations on School Coexistence," explores how expressing emotions through painting can enhance school coexistence for primary-level students at the Instituto Técnico Alejandro Gutiérrez Calderón. The study, framed within the socio-critical paradigm and adopting a qualitative approach, was carried out using an action-research design within a case study. Information-generation methods included document analysis, participant observation, workshops, surveys, and semi-structured interviews. These involved 4th and 5th-grade primary students from the San Juan Bosco campus, who used painting as a tool to express their emotions. The findings reveal that painting is an effective medium for emotional expression, contributing to a significant improvement in school coexistence. Furthermore, the study underscores the importance of aligning public policy, Law 1620 of 2013, and institutional policies—such as the coexistence manual—to enable more contextualized and effective interventions in promoting harmonious coexistence and mediating conflicts. Therefore, it is recommended to integrate these artistic expression practices into the educational sphere to effectively address emotional and social challenges within the school environment.
