During the pandemic, Cúcuta registered the largest gender gap in terms of time dedicated to caregiving (DANE, 2020). These social practices increase women's overload and reduce their free time activities, disproportionately affecting their life projects compared to men. It is crucial to understand the social representations that perpetuate gender roles in care work and intergenerational changes in the search for gender equality and social justice. Therefore, the general objective of this research is to analyze the social representations of young people and adults about the care economy in the university community of Unisimón, Cúcuta. . The research is located in an interpretative paradigm with a qualitative approach and historical-hermeneutic design. Information was collected through two instruments: semistructured interviews and narrative analysis. Results were obtained that show a similarity between both generations regarding the need to break gender stereotypes with respect to women caregivers, but a high difference in wanting to assume them, the millennial generation does not present any inconvenience, while the centennials refuse to be caregivers, which encourages questioning about the effects that the absence of caregivers will cause, as well as the need to generate research and projects that make visible and contribute to this work.
