Introduction: Adolescent pregnancy is a biological, psychological and social problem that affects families and society. Also, the risks and negative physical health consequences of pregnancy are well known, but they do not operate in isolation, but are linked to psychosocial, economic, political, structural and gender factors. This situation cannot be considered a biological problem, because it is also a social problem with many negative edges and areas of influence. Objective: To investigate the causes and consequences of teenage pregnancy today. Methods: A bibliographic search was carried out for the terms "teenage pregnancy" associated with "social problems", "Causes", and "Consequences". Results: It was found that low schooling, belonging to a dysfunctional family, living in rural or marginal areas and risk perception problems are conditioning factors for teenage pregnancy. Conclusion: The importance of the family in the comprehensive health care of adolescents lies in the timely identification of risks such as family disharmony, family disintegration, family history of early pregnancy and low or insufficient sex education in adolescents, which, if sustained, will have an impact on the future of these adolescents and their future generations.eng
