Quality in patient care and safety is a fundamental pillar of nursing. The proper application of nursing practices not only enhances the effectiveness of treatment, but also plays a crucial role in the comprehensive preparation of patients. Therefore, this research aims to formulate an approach to improve the quality of care in the surgery service related to nursing practices in the San José Clinic of Cúcuta, for this purpose a methodology based on the quantitative paradigm deductive type of non-experimental and documentary field was used. Within the framework of this research, a questionnaire composed of 34 items was designed and validated for the collection of information, demonstrating a Cronbach's reliability of 0.63. The results revealed the existence of several factors affecting the quality of the service provided by the surgical area. Possible administrative, pre-anesthetic and patient-related causes were identified, which may lead to the cancellation of previously scheduled surgical procedures. Consequently, conclude that there is an urgent need to implement strategies to strengthen the service in terms of quality and patient safety. These strategies should address administrative causes, such as accurate patient identification, availability of surgical resources, sufficiency of personnel and adequacy of the area for these purposes. It is also crucial to promote respect for the patient's well-being by means of tools that allow a thorough assessment of the patient's preconditions, thus ensuring safety in surgical procedures.
