Since 2013, the academic program of Social Work at the Simón Bolívar University – Cúcuta has had the modality of research practices. In this modality, the role of social researcher declared by the program in the graduation profile is highlighted. The academic program has assumed the fields of intervention declared by the National Council of Social Work Education - CONETS, among them is the field or area of health, which has been one of the founders of the profession, since the establishment of the profession in the world and it was one of the areas with which it began in Chile, being the first country in Latin America to begin with Social Work. For this reason, the present research work consists of analyzing the main social determinants of health in three neighborhoods of the city of Cúcuta, Norte de Santander. Consistent with the Organizations that govern our profession in Colombia, the Social Work program of the Simón Bolívar University since its creation at the Cúcuta headquarters has had health as an area, in missionary functions, such as teaching, extension and research, that is, in the curriculum with electives, in the intervention from professional practices and some processes in Extension and in research from the research seedbeds with a health and family axis and the formative research projects and research of research professors . The practices, in some previous reviews, are seen at the levels of care, prevention and promotion. In conclusion, this project provides a contribution to the area of health in Social Work from a perspective of social determinants, taking into account the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), identifying the personal, social, economic and environmental factors that determine the state of health of individuals or populations.
