One of the sectors most affected by the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has been education, where academic stress, increased anxiety, family problems, among others, have affected the student population. Higher education does not escape this reality where students are immersed in a new reality characterized by receiving classes from home, poor connectivity, increased tuition costs, difficulties in adapting to the new learning process, difficulties in group work interaction, among others. Taking into account the above, the objective of this descriptive, applied, field work research with a quantitative approach was to analyze the factors that affect the academic performance of the students of the Industrial Engineering program of the Universidad Simón Bolívar, in times of pandemic caused by COVID-19, in order to have information that can be used for the improvement plans developed by the directors of the academic program. For the collection of data, a questionnaire was constructed and applied to 186 students, obtaining as results that economic problems were the most affecting for the studies and that the most used means to receive classes was the cellular phone. In addition, according to the perception of the students, 69.2% did not fail subjects and in the case of loss, the cause was attributed to the lack of understanding of the subject matter. Finally, it is concluded that the pandemic had an impact on the students' performance, however, this was not so significant considering the students' perception of academic performance and the percentage of passing subjects.
