Educativa Normal Superior Sincelejo.
activos.
Introduction: Physical inactivity in adolescents between the ages of 11 and 17 has negative repercussions on their physical and mental health and academic performance. In particular, a worrying decline in regular physical activity and sports is observed during this stage of development. Objective: To determine the relationship between physical activity and sports participation and the academic performance of high school students at the Sincelejo Normal Superior Educational Institution. Methodology: This study used a quantitative approach, with a descriptive and correlational scope. The sample consisted of 300 students between the ages of 15 and 17. The instruments used were the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Schoolaged Children (PAQ-C), the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ-s), and the ISCOLE Questionnaire on lifestyle, nutrition, and academic history. Results: Only 12% of students meet the WHO recommendations for 60 minutes of daily physical activity. Eighty percent of students do not participate in extracurricular activities or sports, exhibiting high levels of sedentary lifestyles and inadequate sleep patterns. Conclusions: A slight improvement was observed in the philosophy course; no statistically significant differences were found in the overall average. These results highlight the need to implement institutional or governmental strategies to encourage and promote more active lifestyles.
