| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: In women with preeclampsia, serum uric acid levels often increase due to a combination of decreased glomerular filtration, increased purine catabolism, and endothelial oxidative stress. Several studies have found that elevated uric acid levels correlate with the severity of preeclampsia and with a higher risk of maternal complications, such as eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, acute renal failure and liver disorders, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, and thrombotic microangiopathy, as well as complications in the infant, such as a higher risk of NICU admission, low birth weight, and respiratory distress, among others. | eng |
