The present research focuses on exploring the relationship between family functionality and the level of emotional dependence in young university students of the psychology program at the Universidad Simón Bolívar Cúcuta, using a quantitative approach and a non-experimental correlational design, the sample consisted of 165 young university students of the psychology program from semesters 1 to 5, aged between 18 and 22 years, the instruments used were the Family APGAR and the emotional dependence questionnaire CDE. The results obtained regarding the emotional dependence variable indicated that 48% (79 students) present “Normal” levels of dependence, which suggests that most of them maintain balanced affective bonds without excessive dependence, likewise the results of the family functionality variable suggest that 92% (152 students) present a “Normal” range of family functionality, which suggests that most of them present a healthy family dynamics, regarding the correlation of the variables the results obtained revealed that the value of -0.171 indicates a weak negative correlation. This suggests that there is a slight tendency in which, as CDE scores increase, APGAR scores tend to decrease.
