In the field of health, polyuse is defined as the simultaneous use of multiple psychoactive substances. Several studies have highlighted its complexity and the need to understand its implications, to speak of protective factors, that is, to speak of characteristics detectable in an individual, family, group or community that favor human development, maintenance or recovery of health; and that may counteract the possible effects of risk factors, risk behaviors and, therefore, reduce vulnerability, whether general or specific. It must be carried out within the framework of actions that meet certain fundamental requirements: the objective must be the human development of adolescents; the actions must be intersectoral; health must be viewed from the perspective of comprehensiveness; care must be multidisciplinary; there must be a broad scope for social and health participation of adolescents; and there must be a broad involvement of parents and teachers. There are numerous factors in the adolescent universe that would trigger certain risky behaviors and influence, in part, some of the most common pathologies of this age. Common factors that determine risky behaviours of high-risk youth, Donas Burak (2001) makes a distinction between ‘broad-spectrum’ risk factors and risk factors or behaviours
