Resumen
El presente trabajo expone como el consumo de sustancias psicoactivas en jóvenes y adolescentes es un problema de salud pública importante, que puede asociarse con la salud mental, entre otras cosas, lesiones y accidentes graves, discapacidad, trastornos psiquiátricos,
trastornos afectivos, pensamientos y conductas suicidas, así como también conductas sexuales de riesgo. La caracterización del consumo de sustancias psicoactivas en jóvenes universitarios implica comprender los factores de riesgo y protección asociados, así como las motivaciones y las
circunstancias que llevan a este consumo. Al abordar este tema se busca encontrar información sobre la frecuencia de consumo, tipos de droga más consumida, establecer los factores de riesgo y protectores e identificar los efectos de consumo que presentan los jóvenes.
Para esto tenemos a García- Carretera, et al. (2019), según los autores el incremento del consumo de sustancias psicoactivas (SPA), alcohol y cigarrillo en población joven se ha convertido en un problema de salud pública. La identificación de los factores que aumentan o disminuyen el riesgo de la exposición a estas sustancias y la relación que puede haber entre ellas resulta fundamental para la planificación de estrategias con enfoque de riesgo, razón por la cual
plantearon su estudio.
