Objective: To analyze the effects of an educational intervention on enhancing knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding dengue prevention among schoolchildren in Barranquilla, Colombia, during the second semester of 2024. Materials and methods: This study is a field trial with a quantitative, quasi experimental design, aimed at evaluating the impact of an educational intervention through a Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) survey on dengue, which was administered both before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the intervention. The multiple-choice questionnaire addressed key aspects of the virus, its mode of transmission, the vector, its habits, and individual and community-level control measures. The educational intervention, conducted over the course of one month with students aged 9 to 12 years, was titled 'The Neighborhood Heroes' and consisted of a set of three stories and interactive activities designed to promote good practices in dengue prevention, encouraging learning and the adoption of preventive behaviors among schoolchildren. Conclusions: These findings highlight the importance of promoting similar research in other schools across the Department of Atlántico, with the aim of contributing to the management and control of dengue both within and beyond the school environment, recognizing the role of schoolchildren as replicators of knowledge and practices within their families.
