| spa |
dc.description.abstract | Objective: To evaluate the impact of physical activity counseling from the Generación Vida Nueva program on the active behavior of pregnant women with gestational diabetes in Barranquilla. Materials and Methods: A pre-post longitudinal design was used to evaluate a natural experiment in a cohort of 1,041 individuals from the Generation of New Life program in Barranquilla. The short IPAQ questionnaire was used to measure physical activity and sedentary behavior. The group and individual counseling program were conducted by professionals from the New Life Foundation. Results: The majority of pregnant women were between 18 and 28 years old, lived in a common-law relationship, and belonged to socioeconomic status 1. After receiving physical activity counseling, a significant increase was observed in the number of minutes and weekly energy expenditure spent on moderate physical activity and walking, with no significant changes in vigorous activity or sedentary behavior. Compliance with physical activity recommendations increased from 40,2% to 63,5% (p=0,0001). Family support and access to adequate spaces were the main facilitators. Conclusions: This study evaluated the impact of physical activity counseling from the Generación Vida Nueva program on pregnant women in Barranquilla, finding significant improvements in physical activity levels and adherence to recommendations. The intervention was most effective among adolescents and women in the third trimester, highlighting the importance of social support and multiple session attendance. It is recommended that implementation be strengthened, and strategies adapted according to age, trimester, and context. | eng |
