Historic centers, as urban jewels impregnated with the cultural and architectural heritage of a community, represent living witnesses of the past. These places encapsulate the essence of a city, housing monuments, buildings and spaces that narrate the history and evolution of a society over time. In the context of tourism development, historic centers have exceptional potential to become magnets that attract visitors eager for authentic and enriching experiences. Its unique character, a mix of traditions, history and art, offers tourists a genuine immersion in the identity of a place. Furthermore, the tourism development of these centers not only boosts the local economy, generating employment and commercial opportunities, but also promotes the conservation and revitalization of these urban heritages, contributing to their preservation over time. The intersection between historic centers and tourism development, therefore, not only benefits the tourism industry, but also strengthens the bond between the past and the present, creating a sustainable cultural legacy for future generations. In the context of the City of Barranquilla, Colombia, a topic of increasing relevance and complexity is the role of historic centers in the tourist development of the city. Despite the rich history and cultural heritage that these places have in many Latin American countries, their potential to boost the tourism industry and contribute to the economic growth of Barranquilla has not been fully explored or taken advantage of. This problem statement seeks to highlight the critical issues that hinder the transformation of the historic center of Barranquilla into an effective engine of tourism development.
