entorno.
The research addresses social isolation in nursing homes, focusing on the psychosocial factors that cause it and social intervention techniques. It was carried out between 2024 and 2025, evaluating the role of older adults within the family. Isolation is a common phenomenon due to social stereotypes, inequality, and barriers that affect the participation and well-being of older adults, who become more vulnerable when they enter these homes. Difficulties with mobility, hearing, and socialization complicate their adaptation. Despite the efforts of staff to meet their needs, older adults often do not feel safe or understood in their new environment, which prevents greater integration. In addition, family disconnection and lack of support contribute to isolation, reflecting a limited social view of old age. Research indicates that old age should be valued as a productive stage of life, rather than being seen as an obstacle. The challenge lies in improving family and social integration to transform nursing homes into spaces where older adults not only receive care, but can also live fully and connected to their environment.
