Introduction: as a consequence of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, several guidelines were established to reduce the contagion, one of these guidelines was the physical/social distancing that led to the temporary suspension of academic activities within the institutions and the development of the online education program and non-face-to-face class methodologies. This generates a different dynamic of interaction and communication, facilitating or hindering the establishment and/or maintenance of interpersonal relationships, including academic interactions (students-students, students-professors). Objective: To describe how affective interpersonal relationships of friendship are established in university students during the process of virtual classes within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: The sample consisted of 102 university students between 18 and 24 years of age (82 females, 20 males) who completed a virtual Likert-type survey validated by expert judges. The survey evaluated the aspects of establishment and maintenance of interpersonal relationships.
