responsabilidades institucionales, diseñar estrategias sostenibles y establecer alianzas
The accumulation of solid waste represents a serious problem that affects both biodiversity and the tourism potential of a place. The problem originating in Puerto Colombia, Atlántico, focuses on the growing accumulation of solid waste that the Magdalena River drags along its route and ends up dumping on its beaches, seriously threatening local and regional tourism development. Taking this situation into account, this research focuses on elucidating the problem and proposing possible solutions on how to characterize solid waste on beaches, identify institutional responsibilities, design sustainable strategies and establish strategic alliances. These efforts not only seek to preserve the natural environment and improve the quality of life of residents, but also strengthen the tourism competitiveness of the municipality. All this was done, through a mixed methodological approach, taking into account the breadth and depth of the problem. The results of this study show that this problem highlights the urgency of coordinating policies with government entities to implement sustainable strategies and reverse the pollution that the Magdalena River is producing in Puerto Colombia, seriously affecting tourism, which is a vital source for the local economy. The presence of solid waste can deter visitors and affect the image of the municipality as a tourist destination. This situation is especially critical for Puerto Colombia, which has significant tourism potential due to its strategic location and natural attractions.
