Sexual abuse in early childhood is a hidden but alarming issue that severely affects the lives of children in Sabana Grande, Atlántico. Early childhood, marked by vulnerability, becomes a critical stage where abuse can occur unnoticed, particularly in environments lacking informed parents, caregivers, and community awareness. The absence of early sexual education and the social taboos surrounding the topic hinder the recognition and timely reporting of abuse cases. Limited training in abuse prevention among responsible adults, including teachers and healthcare professionals, further restricts effective intervention. The consequences for victims are profound, including emotional disorders, difficulty in forming trusting relationships, and long-term self-esteem issues that impair their life development. Although Colombia has enacted laws such as Law 1146 of 2007 to protect children from sexual violence, along with related legislation, their implementation at the local level remains insufficient. It is imperative to strengthen prevention strategies by training adults, implementing emotional education for children, and fostering community support networks. These combined efforts aim to build a culture of protection, improve reporting mechanisms, and ensure safer environments for children.
