The purpose of this study was to determine the various coping mechanisms that cancer patients most frequently employ, keeping in mind the challenges that the onset of the disease poses for both the patient and their family setting. In order to do this, a narrative assessment of the body of research on coping mechanisms in different populations was conducted. Because of this, a search was conducted for original publications with a ten-year temporal validity. Scielo, Redalyc, Scopus, and Science Direct were the databases used for the review. Three age and role-based categories were considered while presenting the results, and they were as follows: coping mechanisms used by cancer patients' families or caregivers, people with the disease, and children and adolescents with the disease. For this search, the following descriptors were employed: Cancer, coping mechanisms, children, teenagers, adults, relatives, and caregivers; quality of life. The following standards for inclusion were established: 1) Studies published in journals 2) Having a short lifespan of 2014–2024 3) That psychology was their field of study. The search for social, familial, and spiritual support, interpretation and positive reappraisal, problem solving, emotional expression and discharge, use of religion and spirituality, acceptance and resignation in the face of the situation, and problem solving are the most common coping strategies employed by both populations, according to the results derived from the documents that were chosen.
