The objective of this work was to determine cognitive performance (attention, memory, language, executive functions and praxis) and emotional states in adolescents with HIV/AIDS. The method is a quantitative type, with an Observational-cross-sectional design - descriptive. With a sample made up of a total of 53 adolescents, of whom 30 are HIV positive and 23 are seronegative - healthy controls, without HIV infection -. The results showed significant differences between both groups, being the control group the one that obtained higher scores in relation to aspects of attention – selective and sustained – (1), verbal memory (2), verbal denomination (3), visual memory (4 ), executive functions (5), and intelligence – IQ – (6). In conclusion, adolescents with HIV have lower cognitive performance compared to the seronegative control group. This suggests cognitive deficits that should be studied further in further research.
