In the first two decades of the 21st century, the Colombian state has fostered rapprochement with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, in the midst of an internal context characterized by violence, forced displacement, and the constant violation of the human rights of its inhabitants. The objective of this essay is to answer the question about the convenience or not of these approaches, in times of great tension generated by the post-conflict and the Colombian-Venezuelan border crisis. The research focuses on the analysis of the limitations and opportunities offered by the entry of Colombia as an "important Non-NATO ally" to this international organization. It is concluded that, due to the eminently warlike nature of the aid derived from this association, more than benefits it brings negative consequences for the country and the region.
