The present study, titled "Analysis of Territorial Absorptive Capacity in the Colombian Caribbean Region: A Comparative Study between Barranquilla and Valledupar," aims to examine the differences in territorial absorptive capacity between these two cities. This concept is understood as a territory's ability to identify, assimilate, transform, and apply external knowledge, a fundamental aspect for driving its economic and social development. The main objective of this research is to evaluate this capacity within the Colombian Caribbean region through a comparative approach between Barranquilla and Valledupar. A descriptive and comparative methodology is employed, based on the analysis of secondary data from institutional and academic sources. The results obtained reflect key findings related to each research objective. Regarding the first objective, the literature review indicated that infrastructure and human capital are the fundamental variables with the greatest impact on territorial absorptive capacity, especially in contexts with varying levels of competitiveness. For the second objective, it was found that Barranquilla holds a significant advantage in educational infrastructure and institutional support for innovation, while Valledupar faces notable challenges related to human capital and financial resources. Finally, the third objective proposes strengthening public-private cooperation in both cities as a priority strategy to enhance infrastructure and foster the development of technological and innovation capacities. The study concludes that promoting collaboration among universities, businesses, and the government in both cities is essential, with strategies tailored to their specific contexts. The research provides recommendations that may help strengthen territorial absorptive capacity, thereby fostering more equitable and sustainable development in the Colombian Caribbean region.
