Resumen
Esta investigación está enmarcada en el análisis de las potencialidades del municipio de Santo Tomás (Atlántico) para el ejercicio del turismo rural como alternativa de desarrollo local, considerando el gran auge de esta activad. En los últimos años, ha aumentado el interés por conocer el medio rural y sus tradiciones, lo cual presenta una oportunidad para el impulso del turismo en el municipio. En correspondencia, se desarrolló un diagnóstico turístico, sobre las condiciones existentes en el territorio, referidas principalmente a los atractivos turísticos y sus potencialidades, además se trabajó con actores estratégicos y población del municipio a fin de conocer su grado de disposición, capacidad y conocimiento para el desarrollo de la actividad turística.El diseño metodológico de esta investigación descriptiva de corte cuantitativo contemplo la revisión documental de proyectos orientados en la dinámica del turismo rural y su incidencia en el desarrollo de los territorios, se incluye dentro estos documentos información extraídas de diferentes instituciones como lo son el Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística DANE, Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo MCIT, Departamento del Atlántico y Alcaldía de Santo Tomás (Atlántico). Por otra parte fue realizada una investigación de campo en la cual fue consultada población de interés, por una parte personas asentadas en el casco urbano y área rural del municipio de Santo Tomás (Atlántico) y por otro lado representantes de entes gubernamentales del orden local y departamental.
This research is framed in the analysis of the potentialities of the municipality of Santo Tomás (Atlántico) for the exercise of rural tourism as an alternative to local development, considering the great boom of this activity. In recent years, interest in knowing the rural environment and its traditions has increased, which presents an opportunity to boost tourism in the municipality. In correspondence, a touristic diagnosis was developed, on the existing conditions in the territory, mainly referred to the tourist attractions and their potentialities, besides working with strategic actors and population of the municipality in order to know their degree of disposition, capacity and knowledge for the development of tourist activity. The methodological design of this descriptive investigation of quantitative section includes the documentary review of projects oriented in the dynamics of rural tourism and its incidence in the development of the territories, these documents are included information extracted from different institutions such as the National Administrative Department of Statistics DANE, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism MCIT, Department of Atlántico and Mayor of Santo Tomás (Atlántico). On the other hand, a field investigation was carried out in which a population of interest was consulted, on the one hand people settled in the urban area and rural area of the municipality of Santo Tomás (Atlántico) and on the other hand representatives of local government entities and departmental.
