Background: Sepsis is a common condition that is associated with unacceptably high mortality, for many of those who survive, long-term morbidity. The World Health Assembly and WHO made sepsis a global health priority in 2017 and have adopted measures to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment, the use of predictive biomarkers of the progression from sepsis to septic shock and for hence the high mortality associated with the latter. Objective: To describe the state of the art of the molecular biomarkers proposed for the diagnosis and prognosis of sepsis, severe sepsis and septic shock, through the systematic review of databases in the period 2014-2018. Materials and Methods: Review article in which the records of the last 5 years (2014-2018) that were in the databases were analyzed: MEDLINE (NML) PubMed. Classified by year of publication and including only research and review articles that evaluate or address the Keywords: "Presepsin", "Biomarkers", "Sepsis", "Septic shock". Results: For the review, 32 articles characterized by being published in the period between 2014 and 2018 were taken into account, which described theoretical aspects of soluble CD14 Presipsin in relation to other currently existing molecular biomarkers with diagnostic values for the development of sepsis and shock septic.eng
