Diabetes is defined as a group of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in the secretion or action of insulin, or both. Diabetic foot as a complication of diabetes significantly increased the quality of life of patients, approximately 15% of diabetic patients developed a foot ulcer throughout their lives (1 in 7). The diabetic foot is the main cause of nontraumatic amputations in the world. A study is presented below, whose research methodology is descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional, its objective is to determine the factors that are associated with amputations in patients with diabetic foot in a fourth level clinic in the city of Barranquilla where 44 patients of a fourth level clinic in the city of Barranquilla are included, to which each clinical history was specifically observed and the foot amputation was related to the presence or absence of various variables. The results showed that although there are risk factors that increase the predominance to perform an amputation in diabetic patients as age over 64 years in 61.5%, 9 out of 13 patients were found to be female and in terms of classification of Meggitt-Wagner, the one who had a predilection for performing the procedure was type 4 with 53.8%.
