We will present the different aspects of the dredging system in Colombia and how pollution occurs due to this activity, we will highlight each of the functions that are carried out that can lead to altering the environment and we will express some of the problems that arise in the ports that have to do not only with this activity but also with the use of the maritime sector. Colombia's ports are an issue that, despite being debated geographically and politically, is not considered a key point in the development of the country's international trade. Therefore, the government and the private sector must work together to address this issue so that these areas can be strengthened, as these areas represent an opportunity to increase the competitiveness of the country's economy ahead of the rest of the world. On the other hand, dredging and discharge of dredged material are the processes of artificially induced erosion, transport and deposition of sediments. This process has the ability to have positive and negative effects on the environment of the dredged areas, the areas where the dredged material is discharged, and nearby areas. This can generate serious problems in the lives of the beings that live there, but also those that live on land; the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the environment can be negatively affected by the dredging processes and discharge of the dredged material. Water quality, suspension and distribution of contaminated sediments, effects on fish, flora and other organisms, and physical changes to the aquatic bottom are some of the potential negative effects it could cause.
