morbimortalidad
OBJECTIVE: To describe the epidemiological characteristics of patients with gestational and congenital syphilis, notified by a health insurer in Colombia. METHODOLOGY: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted in order to identify the main sociodemographic and clinical variables of the mother and child, who presented Congenital Infection by Treponema pallidum, notified in Colombia by a health insurer during the years 2016 to 2018 RESULTS: The mothers and their neonates chosen in this study, registered by the insured, who presented a positive report of the respective tests for the detection of infection for syphilis, mostly belonged to the department of Choco, with an occupation level of unskilled workers, and with a poor performance of prenatal controls and a high incidence of these pathologies in this group of patients. CONCLUSIONS: There are certain sociodemographic characteristics that represent certain risk factors for the acquisition of congenital and acquired infections, associated with the absence of prenatal controls that leads to the lack of timely treatment for both mothers and their children, culminating in high morbidity and mortality rates
