La investigación adoptó un enfoque cualitativo y un paradigma sociocrítico, orientados a comprender las experiencias de la población frente a la precariedad del servicio y a aportar insumos para la transformación social del territorio. A través de grupos focales con habitantes de la vereda se recolectaron discursos, vivencias y expectativas relacionadas con el acceso al agua potable, los cuales fueron examinados mediante análisis del discurso para identificar significados, creencias y valores sobre la gestión local del recurso hídrico. Los resultados mostraron que la comunidad percibe el servicio como insuficiente, irregular y de baja calidad. El suministro llega solo una vez por semana y el agua suele ser turbia y con sedimentos, lo que obliga a recurrir al hervido o a la compra de agua embotellada. También se evidenciaron afectaciones en la salud, especialmente gastrointestinales, asociadas al consumo de agua sin tratamiento adecuado. La comunidad manifestó preocupación por la distribución inequitativa del recurso, señalando que algunas propiedades reciben mayor prioridad en el suministro. Entre las soluciones propuestas destacan la instalación de una planta de tratamiento, el aumento de la capacidad de almacenamiento y la implementación de un sistema participativo de vigilancia sanitaria. En conjunto, la investigación concluye que garantizar el derecho al agua en Los Vados requiere fortalecer la infraestructura, promover la participación comunitaria.This study analyzed the perceptions of the community of the Los Vados rural area, in the municipality of Los Patios (Norte de Santander), regarding access to and the treatment of water as a fundamental right. The research adopted a qualitative approach and a socio-critical paradigm, aimed at understanding the population’s experiences with the precariousness of the service and providing inputs for the social transformation of the territory. Through focus groups with residents of the area, discourses, experiences, and expectations related to access to drinking water were collected and examined using discourse analysis to identify meanings, beliefs, and values associated with local water resource management. The results showed that the community perceives the service as insufficient, irregular, and of poor quality. Water is supplied only once a week, and it is often cloudy and contains sediments, forcing residents to boil it or purchase bottled water. Health impacts, especially gastrointestinal issues, were also identified and associated with consuming untreated water. The community expressed concern about the unequal distribution of the resource, noting that certain properties receive priority in the supply. Among the proposed solutions were the installation of a treatment plant, increased storage capacity, and the implementation of a participatory sanitary monitoring system.
