Resumen
La leptospirosis es una enfermedad infectocontagiosa, producida por una bacteria del género Leptospira, que ataca indistintamente al hombre y a animales domésticos y silvestres. El agente puede vivir y reproducirse en aguas de ríos, arroyos, lagos, aguas estancadas, etc. Es una patología polimorfa. Los caninos pueden actuar como fuente de infección para el hombre debido al estrecho contacto que se desarrolla entre ambos. Tradicionalmente al género Leptospira se lo considera integrado por dos especies: L. interrogans (formas patógenas) y L. biflexa (abarca formas saprófitas). Estas especies a su vez, se dividen en serogrupos y serovares, teniendo en cuenta que la leptospirosis es una zoonosis de distribución mundial que está presente tanto en áreas rurales como urbanas. Los roedores son los principales reservorios de leptospiras patógenas y constituyen importantes fuentes de infección para el hombre y los animales domésticos. Barranquilla es una de las ciudades con las mayores tasas de casos humanos, Aunque ésto supone la presencia de reservorios, no existen estudios previos sobre los aspectos biológicos y ambientales asociados a esta infección en roedores en dicha área geográfica y los antecedentes en el resto del país son muy escasos. El objetivo de este estudio fue buscar asociaciones entre aspectos ambientales y biológicos y la prevalencia de infección por leptospiras teniendo en cuenta el sexo y estación del año la humedad que se presentava en la vivienda, el manejo y consumo de agua.
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira, which indiscriminately attacks man and domestic animals and wildlife. The agent can live and reproduce in waters of rivers, streams, lakes, water, etc.. It is a polymorphous disease. The dogs can act as a source of human infection due to close contact that develops between them. Traditionally the genus Leptospira is seen as comprising two species: L. interrogans (pathogenic forms) and L. biflexa (saprophytic forms covers). These species in turn are divided into serogroups and serovars, since leptospirosis is a zoonosis of worldwide distribution that is present in both rural and urban areas. Rodents are the main reservoirs of pathogenic Leptospira and constitute important sources of infection for humans and pets. Barranquilla is one of the cities with the highest rates of human cases, although this implies the presence of reservoirs, there are no previous studies on the biological and environmental aspects associated with this infection in rodents in this area and the background the rest of the country are very scarce. The aim of this study was to look for associations between environmental and biological aspects and the prevalence of leptospira infection in view of sex and season moisture is presentava in housing, handling and consumption of water.
