The experience of working as a transitional-grade teacher in the northern area of the Urabá region has been a continuous blend of questions and reflections about history, its changing dynamics, families, and especially the interests of the children with whom I share each day. Overall, the goal is to understand how children relate to the world around them through their communicative and socio-emotional skills, which shape the realities and interpretations they construct—realities that extend far beyond the walls of the school and traditional family ideals. To this end, students, teachers, and families from preschool through third grade are involved in exploring their prior knowledge about their territory, their family structures, and the experiences of everyday life, all expressed in their own language. This research gives voice to the children who grow and make sense of their existence in a place called Necoclí, in Antioquia—a town full of landscapes, ancestral cultures, traditional sung dances, and people in constant transit who may or may not be perceived as part of their lived realities. Through an action-research approach, this project seeks to reflect on the local context through the interpretations offered by the participating students, who continuously construct their own sense of reality. At the end of this process—one that demanded significant effort given the young age of the participants—an audio archive was compiled. This material will be shared to assess its future impact on the educational community.
