En este trabajo se hace un análisis de la problemática de la enseñanza de la Geografía en el departamento del Atlántico, Colombia, la cual desde hace muchas décadas afecta a esta disciplina escolar y está aún lejos de ser superada. Se enfatiza en los factores que la producen, en su incidencia en la baja calidad de la educación y se finaliza con unas conclusiones y recomendaciones que pretenden contribuir con la superación de esta problemática. Es un ensayo descriptivo y explicativo, sustentado en una extensa investigación bibliográfica, en encuestas y entrevistas realizadas tanto a profesores como estudiantes, en visitas y observaciones a diferentes instituciones educativas y en la experiencia personal del autor en su calidad de profesor de Geografía en los niveles medio y superior.
This work analyzes the problem of geography teaching in the Departamento del Atlántico, Colombia, which has been affecting this school discipline for many decades and is still far from being solved. It emphasizes its causes, its impact on the poor quality of education and ends with some conclusions and recommendations aimed at overcoming it. It is a descriptive and explanatory essay, based on an extensive literature review, surveys and interviews to teachers and students, visits and observations at different educational institutions and on the personal experience of the author in his activity as a teacher of Geography in intermediate and higher education.
